While Ive never met anyone who felt they got it right 100% of the time, going back to the basics can help you get clear on what you want and feel better about moving forward. Here are five simple strategies Ive learned for lessening the odds that youll look back and wish you did it differently. 1. Youve Got to Collect All the InformationThe first step is research. If you make a decision without the proper information- like joining a company without learning what the culture is really like- youre setting yourself up for disappointment later on when you learn something that wouldve made a difference. Putting the time in on the front end means fewer chances for regret down the line. You dont want to be thinking, If only Id checked out the website more closely or I shouldve asked that in my interview You want to be thinking, I did my research and made the best decision I could.2. Youve Got to Chill OutMaking a choice is stressful by nature, but doing it from a place of calm consideration lowers your chance of making the wrong one. Thats because the calmer you are, the less likely you are to make a hasty, emotional decision.Try to get into a relaxed state of mind, remove any stressors- including people- from the room, and think through your decision with a clear head and an open mind. Dont rush, dont freak out instead, take deep breaths and think about the facts. If youre not in the right state, ask yourself if you have to weigh your vorkaufsrechts right then, or if you can wait until a better time (i.e., sleeping on it usually helps).3. Youve Got to Know All the OptionsA client recently asked me to help her think through a big, cross-country move. Her husband had a job offer with a higher salary in the new lo cation and while they loved where they were, they were struggling financially in an expensive city. I pointed out that her options werent simply to take the job or to stay and continue to barely make ends meet. There were other ways she could change her situation her husband could ask for a raise, she could look for part-time work, or they could downsize their house. Dont leave any option unexplored, no matter how unlikely it seems You want to know the full range of choices and not limit yourself to two.4. Youve Got to Keep a ListInstead of just going through the pros and cons in your head, write them out in list form. Its not just a matter of clarifying important points and picking a side. Keeping the list will help you minimize regret, because if you start to second-guess yourself later on, youll have evidence for why you made the decision you did. Sometimes, a simple reminder that your choice was based on concrete factors and the best information you had at the time- and wasnt ju st made on a whim- can help re-configure your thinking so you feel better about the path you took.5. Youve Got to Keep Things in PerspectiveThis is important both during decision-making and afterwards. We often get so caught up in finding the best option that it consumes us. Reminding yourself that things are going to be OK no matter which choice you make- which is true fruchtwein of the time- puts you in the right mindset for a regret-free decision. Youre not perfect- and thats OK, no one is. Sometimes, we choose badly, or circumstances beyond our control mean that a decision we made wasnt the right one. Regret is usually unproductive and pointless, and although that doesnt help when you feel like you made a huge mistake, the less time you spend dwelling on what could have been, the better. If all else fails, try to channel that regret into something useful. Making a poor decision prepares you for better decision making in the future. Additionally, there are usually no legal requirements to join its ranks. Some professions, on the other hand, are more tightly regulated and require specific degrees and licenses. So make sure to find out what is mandated by law vs. what is at the discretion of employers before investing in a new career.No one can tell you more than the people working in the field. The reality of working in a specific profession is often not what the media portrays, or as you imagine it to be. For example, many people go into the arts because they like creativity and aesthetics, wi thout realizing that many artists are self-employed. Sure, there are actors who make millions of dollars per year - but we all know the vast majority of actors are underpaid. On the other hand, even junior-level positions for some professions can be very well compensated. For example, UX Designers and Software Engineers can start their careers at salaries much higher than average.Estimating your earning potential is very important, especially if you have specific financial goals in mind, or you are considering taking out loans to go back to school. If you borrow way too much compared to what you can realistically expect to make after graduation, you risk setting yourself up for failure in the long run. Glassdoor is one of the top resources online to research salary ranges, and I highly recommend you spend plenty of time researching their database. Tip always research profession and location - salaries can vary a lot from city to cityAnother reason to spend time on Glassdoor is to browse their anonymous employee reviews they can tell you a lot about a company and the culture they are buildi ng. Pick a few different companies in your area and see if you can find reviews from people who have the profession you are thinking of entering. See if you notice specific recurring complaints or positive comments. Look for insights into the way people interact with each other, work-life balance, etc. While a lot depends on specific teams and organizations, you might notice recurring issues across different companies, indicating more systemic issues within the profession or industry. You can then dig a little deeper during your informational interviews.And last, but not least, each city has its own ecosystem of opportunities. Whether you are open to moving or set to stay, make sure to look up data on each city you are considering living in their most vibrant industries, biggest employers, median income and cost of living. Check also whether state, local governments or organizations offer programs to enter the workforce, learn new skills or support entrepreneurship. Meanwhile, Morgan Stanley, which appeared to be making some strides by landing the lead underwriting gig on the most highly anticipated IPO in history, now appears to have botched that opportunity- and the feds are on its tail for possible violations in its handling of the Facebook offering.Which must have the folks over at Goldman Sachs smiling from ear to bloodsucking ear- especially its folks who head up the banks recruiting efforts*.What perfect timing, they must be thinking, for Goldmans main competitors to commit such blunders.You see, in just a few weeks, by the subway load, summer interns will start piling into the halls of Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan, Morgan Stanley, and other top Wall Street banks. And the summers are, if anything, twelve-week sales pitches- for interns as well as for banks. That is, interns are given a weg to show they have the guts to work on Wal l Street full time, and banks are given a chance to lure young and hungry undergrads and MBAs into its ranks, attempting to sell the supposed fact that their HQ is the best place to begin a career on Wall Street.To that end, no longer will J.P. Morgan and Morgan Stanley recruiters will be able to play the you-dont-want-to-work-for-the-squid card, now do you? The hearing requirement is tested at frequencies of 3000hz, 4000hz, 5000hz, and 6000hz. Your average hearing threshold level in these four frequencies must be less than 30db with no level greater than 45db in any one frequency. If an applicants hearing level exceeds these limits, he is ineligible for the rating. Sub-Specialties and Manning Levels Sub-specialties available for this rating include theNavy Enlisted Classification Codes for HT. Manning levels can change from time to time.
